Full-Stack Engineer
Own features end to end across COVIS Pulse and client work — schema, API, interface, and the deploy.
- Location
- Ottawa, Canada · Hybrid (2 days in office)
- Type
- Full-time
- Level
- Mid to senior · 3+ years
- Salary band
- CA$95,000 – CA$135,000
We are a small team that ships. COVIS Pulse consolidates the tools a small business already pays for — Stripe, Square, QuickBooks, Google Analytics and more — into one live dashboard. On the services side we take custom projects from brief to production in about five days.
This role sits across both. You will own features from the database schema through to the interface a business owner actually uses, and you will deploy them yourself. There is no ticket queue and no handoff to a separate ops team, which means the feedback loop is short and the accountability is real.
What you’ll do
- Design and build features end to end — Postgres schema, API routes, React interface, and the deployment that puts them live.
- Build and maintain connectors to third-party APIs (payments, accounting, analytics, calendars), including the auth flows, rate limiting and failure handling that make them trustworthy.
- Own the correctness of the numbers we display. A dashboard that is subtly wrong is worse than no dashboard, so reconciliation and test coverage on data paths are part of the job, not an afterthought.
- Take client projects from a written scope to production inside the quoted window, and say early when a scope is not achievable.
- Review other people's code and have yours reviewed. We keep the bar high and the ego low.
What we need from you
- Three or more years building and shipping production web applications that real people used.
- Strong TypeScript, React and Node. We run Next.js on the App Router; you do not need prior App Router experience, but you should be comfortable becoming fluent quickly.
- Solid relational database skills — schema design, indexing, and the ability to read a query plan when something is slow.
- Experience integrating third-party REST APIs, including OAuth flows and webhook verification.
- You can write. Scopes, commit messages, and explanations to non-technical clients are a meaningful part of this role.
- Legally able to work in Canada.
Nice to have, not required
- Experience with multi-tenant data isolation, particularly row-level security in Postgres.
- You have run something you built yourself, commercially or otherwise.
- Background in payments, accounting or analytics data.
- Comfort with GSAP, Framer Motion or WebGL for interface work.
On degrees
No degree required. A CS degree is welcome and so is a bootcamp, an apprenticeship or an entirely self-taught path — we read the work, not the credential. If you have shipped something we can look at, that counts for more than any qualification on this page.
